The bride looked over her shoulder. She was blooming, a perfect picture of a bride. Flawless. Her makeup was perfection, every hair in place, and her dress was stunning. But as she looked over her shoulder, she wouldn't meet the woman's eyes. She would not look up to meet the eyes that were brimming with tears; but she knew full well that's what she'd see if she were to look up.
"How could you?" the woman asked in a hushed whisper that brimmed with sorrow and angst.
"You know why I did it. You know why it has to be this way." The bride looked up. She was a blushing bride, but the blush was from scorn, and it filled her eyes, sharp and not at all bride-like. They would have made her appear cruel and heartless had it not been for a note of desperation in the flecks of gold in her eyes. You could see that she did not hate this woman, but did not appreciate her presence, nor her questioning.
"This isn't right and you know it." The tears started to fall.
"Of course it is. He loves me."
"But he doesn't understand....you have to make him see- "
"And why would I do that?" The bride straightened her back and raised her head up, "For what purpose on this earth would I do something as stupid as that?"
The woman looked up into the bride's face, a calm expression coming across her own, "Because you love him. And you know this is the only way that he'll be happy. If he knows the truth."
The bride's eyes flashed with fury, "He knows all the truth he needs to know. I can make him happy, so you needn't worry yourself about him. You can leave." And she turns her back on the woman and busies herself with fixing her bouquet.
"Yes," the woman mummers as she exits the room, "but will you?"
The bride's head snaps up, and she whirls around, but the woman is gone.
{Just a short little snippet from some scribbles I did based off the picture. Not part of a larger story. Might be fun to continue in the future, but not for now......mwahahaha}
Yay! Mine's coming soon :)
